Decay

The 'kenniskring' is developing Decay, a game in which students have to discover and reveal one or more criminal networks.

Map

A map of the city of Leiden has been placed at the EduDeck-floor. The map is 35 x 35 meters wide. At one of the corners of the map you can get (take a copy of) a landmark. Place the landmark at an important spot on the map. Touch the landmark and add a line of text so other viewers can see why you think the landmark is important to you. Your name will be automatically added to the text.
The map has also been placed in a large version (210 x 210 m) at the experimental Open Sïm SurfGrid.

Slideshow

At the first Floor of the Main Building (and at the Wharf) you can find a slide show presentation about Within Ten Years.
The slide show has been scripted in a way to show pictures without rez-delay. Soon the script will be available for educators and innovators.

Scenes & Tools

A first version of the EduDeck is available to test at the Wharf. The EduDeck is a kind of HoloDeck for educational purposes. At the moment it contains three Scenes (Future Scenarios, Africa and a Court) and three Tools (Innovation Dialog, PictureBoard and Multi user Poembook). Click the controller and select your scene. And... dont forget to select the menu item "CLEAR" when you have finished your test.

Ever wanted to play a role in an African Scene? The picture below gives an example of another possible scene of the Within Ten Years EduDeck.

Queen

For the Edu-deck, the education "holodeck", a real court will be designed and build. You can find a sneak preview in the picture below.

Help

Money, money, money

At the third floor of the Main Building an ATM of DutchX has been placed. With this money machine (and the website of DutchX), you can buy Linden dollars.

Social Bookmarking

Seven more social bookmarking themes has been added to the Library at the Wharf. A few will follow soon, as well as an information board. Now you can add your favorite or most important urls about twitter-accounts, blogs, lifestreams, video clips, pictures, edutools, 21st century and innovation sites. You can also promote an item in a list to a higher ranking.

Special Visitor

Today Terrence Linden (one of the education employees of Linden Lab) visited Within Ten Years. Half Short, the designer of our education & innovation island gave him a guided tour. He was impressed about all the work that has been done, and, about our creativity and innovative tools and methods.

Twittering apps

Some applications at Within Ten Years automatically send a Tweet at the WTY Twitter account when something has been changed.
The Racks at the library, the Profession of the Future and the Interactive Roadmap tweet when someone has added an entry.

Out of beta stage

The Library Rack about Twitter at the Wharf is out of the beta stage yet. Soon there will be new Racks added, like Blogs, Lifestreams, Videoclips, Edutools and so on. When you have any ideas or wishes for Rack-themes, please let us know.

Sensor at Co-Creation-Library

The Co-Creation-Libray racks now determine if you are close enough to add an entry via chat. When you are out of the 20m chat range, you will be noticed to stand closer or to shout the messages.

Co-creation Library

Last week lots of work has been done to create a "co-creation-library". The Within Ten Years Library is situated at the Wharf. It has the form of a tree with apple-racks hanging at it, and surrounding it. Every rack will get its own information-theme.

Tomorrow a beta-version of the first rack will be operational: the TWITTER Rack. At this rack you can add your own favorite twitter accounts of which you think they are important for educators and/or students to follow. When a rack is full (16 entries per rack) and you like to add a new entry at the same rack, the last one (the 16th) will be removed.

To make a rack even more dynamic, you can promote an entry and so giving it a higher rank. But you cant promote at the same rack consecutively.

News Headlines

For all (new) visitors Within Ten Years has a new service. At the landingpoint you can find the latest news about new tools and examples and where to find it at the island. Of course you can browse through older news items.

Interactive Roadmap

Several trends, developments and actions in the future will change our society, and therefore education. A roadmap helps to get insights of future changes, and supports discussion about future education.
Within Ten Years offers an interactive roadmap with which you can share your visions about the future. You can find the interactive roadmap at the second floor of the Main Building. At the moment more than ten statements about the future has been added.
It is visually designed by The Creative Impulse.

Profession of the Future

Think of the future and imagine new professions. Which future profession you, your child or grandchild, will have? Probably a profession that doesn't exist nowadays. Share your idea about future professions at Within Ten Years. You can find the application to share it at the first floor of the Main Building.

Based on the same scripting and database technology we placed a guestbook at the Main Building. Add your personal note about Within Ten Years!.

HUD 1.30

A new version of the HUD is available at the main building. The new HUD shows the teleport locations of the main sectors of Within Ten Years in the main menu. In this way you can teleport faster to the six sectors. The button "Teleport" has been changed into "All Places", so you can still teleport to all separate locations of the island. "My Teleport" has been changed to "My Places".
