HUD 1.30

A new version of the HUD is available at the main building. The new HUD shows the teleport locations of the main sectors of Within Ten Years in the main menu. In this way you can teleport faster to the six sectors. The button "Teleport" has been changed into "All Places", so you can still teleport to all separate locations of the island. "My Teleport" has been changed to "My Places".

My Teleport

The HUD has been updated with new functionality. From now on you can add your own favorite places to teleport to into the HUD. Go to the Main Building of Within Ten Years and get your free copy. You will also get a notecard with it. Edit the notecard with your own teleport locations and drag & drop the notecard onto the HUD. That's all. Click the HUD and choose My Teleport to select one of your favorite places. In case it doesnt work at once, click the HUD, select Tools and Reset.

Within Ten Years

It’s all about examples, examples and examples

The good, the bad and the ugly

The idea of creating Within Ten Years was born during a class where students were asked to answer a dozen of questions. There were a few restrictions for answering these questions. They had to come up with the answers within ten minutes, plus they had to find them by text messaging people in their network. After about five minutes, phones started to beep with incoming messages. After eight minutes the phone of a student, who paced round the classroom nervously, emitted the last beep. The students shared the responses and about 75 percent of the questions were answered, just by this simple way of crowd sourcing.

The method of using text messaging was only one of the possible - so called 2.0 - ways to discover, but what are other new modern methods and where to find examples of it? What about the possibilities of the future internet? What about the idea of Within Ten Years itself?

Within Ten Years has to be the Virtual Learning Space to experience, collect and share examples of these new educational concepts. There are only three things where Within Ten Years is all about: examples, examples and examples. The good, bad and ugly ones.

We are not alone

A big part of the future internet comprises 3D virtual spaces. These virtual spaces create possibilities for people to create their own environments. Places where they can build and script objects, buildings -houses, schools, hospitals-, vehicles, toys and games, tools and role play theatres. The 21st century needs more and new innovative learning concepts for these surroundings. Teachers, trainers and innovators can meet each other from all over the world and share their ideas about new innovative educational concepts. Let’s explore this new model and its possibilities by creating, experimenting and sharing experiences with teachers and trainers from all over the world and together build the best 3D-environment for learning.

The 21st Century

Students live their digital lifestyle to the fullest. For the first time in human history there is a generation being brought up with full admission to information and communication technology. So far the good news, now over to the bad: school is an outage of their digital lifestyle. Teachers and trainers don’t live a similar digital lifestyle and/or do not have the examples of using the necessary didactical methods in their classes and workshops. Therefore the big question is: How do we the bridge the gap between the digital life style of 21st century students and teachers/trainers with a physical classroom lifestyle developed in the past century?

Within Ten Years is looking for the unexpected examples of how to bridge this gap. Together we can encourage a culture change within the educational system. A change to a way of learning that fits the 21st century.

A wearable shop

Suppose you have the shared examples of Within Ten Years in real time as a Head Up Display with you. Every change, every new example, every new tip or trick, every new developed tool, every new content is shared in real time with all members of Within Ten Years. That’s our dream: offering a free, open, co-created, EduBag for teachers and trainers, fully loaded with free examples of methods for classes and workshops; and enhanced with free supporting tools. Join, share and collaborate to fulfil your and our dream.

Four Futures Contest

Within Ten Years facilitates the contest "In ten years". Visualize your ideas about life in ten years. How do we live, eat, work, travel, communicate, learn, contribute to sustainability and how do we entertain ourselves? The contest is organized by the lectureship "Futures Research in ICT" of Leiden University of Applied Sciences, and is open to everyone.
A contribution need to be places at the Visions sector of Within Ten Years in one of the four futures, that fit best. Contestants have to give permission to move the contribution so we can give it the best place at Visions. We will add an information board to explain the contribution. Some rules are explained at the center of the Visions sector.
